What is mail art? Part I: Outgoing

Do you know what mail art is? Are you just thinking about it now that I mentioned it? Either way you're in luck as this is a two part series about mail art I've made (outgoing) and received (incoming) over the years. Buckle up because boy howdy do I have some fun sh*t to show you!

What is mail art? Part II: Incoming

And then there's the best bit: mail art blows up the idea that art is important because it's expensive and scarce and replaces it with the idea that art's importance lies in serving as a container for friendship and connection to occur.

City of Palo Alto

Historic trees & fictitious snakes: Palo Alto has it all

As cool as it is to have a tree who could spill the tea about the Spanish explorers, there is one event from my childhood that I think deserves some much needed recognition. In 1993, someone called in a sighting of a massive seven foot long black mamba snake to the Palo Alto Animal Services Dept and the city went apesh*t.

Olympic Sleeping

This may not be an official Olympic year, but I'm already training to compete in sleeping at the next Olympic games. For those of you who are unfamiliar with insomnia: it sucks. I myself have gone through sleep training many times, which serves as the basis for the sport. The rules are pretty simple..

The Anxiety Parlor

If you're alive right now then I'm just going to assume that you've experienced anxiety at some point. I myself have the equivalent of a masters degree in anxiety, which continues to be the worst thing I've ever taught myself. However, I'm a big believer in using whatever material Universe gives you to make your art, so I decided to create the very first ice cream parlor where all of the flavors are irrational fears of mine.

Swanhood

Have you ever done that thing where you made up a story about wanting to become a swan, which turned out to not be very funny, but you already made merch? 🙄...

Double Feature

My mom is a writer and she used fabric the same way she used words: to tell stories of how she was feeling and who she wanted to be that day, or hour (my mom is notorious for changing her clothes multiple times a day). I wanted to take her inspiration a step further by telling visual stories based on fabric in two different ways...

Unscripted Weirdness

It may come as a surprise to none of you that I did children's theater in my youth. I never wanted to be an actress; I was in it for the social scene, which meant that backstage activities often took precedence over what was happening onstage...

Power Players

'Twas the 90s and I had just started high school armed with a fresh pair of Doc Martens and my dad's 35mm camera. As a budding photographer, I was fascinated with how photos could tell stories and create characters, which I got to try out in my beginning photo class...

Outfits to Avoid Helping

I will be making my annual Peanut Butter Pie with a Chocolate Ganache glaze and turning up to Thanksgiving dinner in an outfit that says "I cannot season meat properly" to avoid doing any actual cooking. (Hint: lots of sequins). If you would like to remain ornamental this holiday season, I have a few outfit suggestions...
